Rogue's Review:

Holy Mercenary Corruption, Batman!

Caught this on cable last night and loved it - a dark, satirical and extremely creative cautionary tale about misplaced priorities, set in the world of comic books and the crazed lunatics who sell and/or collect them. (Don't get me wrong, I love comics, been reading them since I was kid, even took the bus at least once a week to dark dinky Brooklyn storefronts so I could trade 'em for more.)

Been reading the reviews of this movie and no one seems to get that it's a SATIRE, pushed to its limits, with the comic book villain parallel in full creative force. It's also a great showcase for the talents of its stars, with a particularly outstanding performance by DJ Qualls as Archie (of course his name is Archie), and a spectacular turn by the always-great Eileen Brennan. Donal Logue and Cary Elwes are effectively deviant as well, and Natasha Lyonne proves she can be as psychotic as the next guy, if not more so. All in all, a highly imaginative plunge into gross mercenary corruption.
