Rogue's Review:

ne c'est pas si bon

I went into this film thinking it was going to be one of those buoyant, heady, fun romps ~ a sophisticated frothy comedy with wit to spare. Instead, while "Le Divorce" is sophisticated in some ways, it's bogged down in many others -- too many others -- to make it a satisfying movie-going experience.

Naomi Watts and Kate Hudson are believable as sisters, but that's about the only thing that DOES work - this and the appearance of the great Stephen Fry as an art appraiser. The over-all story is contrived, especially the pathetic scenes involving Matthew Modine stalking his ex-wife, which culminate in the ridiculous and heavy-handed confrontation at the Eiffel Tower, and none of the characters actually feel real. The Merchant Ivory team just didn't get this one right, unfortunately.
