Rogue's Review:A High-Tech "Donnie Brasco"
In "The Recruit," Al Pacino plays a variation of the character he played in "Donnie Brasco", only this time Johnny Depp is replaced by Colin Farrell and there are computers.
This is not a bad thing in itself - Pacino turns in a superb performance and Farrell smolders intensely as humanly possible without actually igniting. Thanks to this, the film is very entertaining for the first two-thirds; it's the jaw-droppingly convoluted last act that ruins it all and leaves us less than satisfied. Something cool DOES happen toward the end, involving a bluff (all I can say), and that worked at least.
